It’s that time of year again, the biggest awards show of the year is upon us. 2013 brought some of the best movies I have ever seen and there are many worthy nominees this year. For the first time, I have not only seen every movie nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, but also all the movies with acting nominees. These are my picks, who I would give the awards to if it was only up to me. As I point out below, some of them are different that who is expected to win, but I make sure to explain why. With that cleared up, I present my 2014 Oscar predictions.
One part investigative journalism, one part a story of a mother looking for her son, Philomena tells a true story of love, loss and faith. Starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, the movie tells the true-story of Philomena Lee whose son was taken from her 50 years ago, and Martin Sixsmith, a troubled journalist who helps her find him. Bond is back and in a big way. Skyfall is the best James Bond movie ever and a movie no one should miss. Starring Daniel Craig in his third turn at the classic role, the film follows M as a dark secret from her past comes back to haunt her, forcing Bond to chase one of his most ruthless enemies ever. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and includes a cast with such names as Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomi Ropace and Judi Dench. Watch the trailer below and then read my review.
