2014 Oscar Predictions

It’s that time of year again, the biggest awards show of the year is upon us. 2013 brought some of the best movies I have ever seen and there are many worthy nominees this year. For the first time, I have not only seen every movie nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, but also all the movies with acting nominees. These are my picks, who I would give the awards to if it was only up to me. As I point out below, some of them are different that who is expected to win, but I make sure to explain why. With that cleared up, I present my 2014 Oscar predictions.

American Hustle Review

A con man helping a cop catch corrupt politicians. That in a nutshell is the premise behind David O. Russell’s new movie, American Hustle. Starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner and Louis C.K., the movie follows Irving Rosenfield as he juggles avoiding arrest and relationships, while still pulling off cons. 2013 Oscar Predictions

There is something special about the Academy Awards. The glitz and glamour of the event, along with the history of the medium, make each Oscar ceremony stand out. For the first time since I started following the award circuit in 2009, I was able to see all the Best Picture nominees before the big day. And for the first time I reviewed the films on this site and can now make sound predictions. Read on to see who I think will take home Oscar tonight.

Silver Linings Playbook Review

The Silver Linings Playbook was a movie that wasn’t really on peoples radar at the start of the festival circuit. Everyone knew it was directed by David O. Russell and had an amazing cast, but that was about it. Then it won the TIFF People’s Choice Award and now it is a serious contender for the Oscars early next year. The film follows Pat, a man released from a mental ward after an incident with his ex-wife, as he tries to rebuild his life and relationships. The stellar cast includes Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and the always amazing Jennifer Lawrence. Watch the trailer after the jump, then read my full review.
